bOARD OF dIRECTORS

Hosea Ojwang, Project Coordinator, Board Chair

Hosea Ojwang is the Director of Human Resources at Boynton Health at the University of Minnesota. He was elected by the Board of Management of RCPUSA to be Chairman of the Board and to serve as the Executive Director in September 2020. Hosea has been a volunteer at RCPUSA since 2006 when he attended a board meeting one spring morning and became drawn in by the mission of the organization. He has previously served in the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. Hosea is a Human Resources practitioner and has over 30 years’ experience in human resource management and consulting.

Hosea has previous not-for-profit experiences in Kenya and the United States.  His service as a board member includes Voluntary Agency Development Assistance (defunct) and the Kenya-Finland Primary Health Care Programme. He also volunteered as a board member of New Americans Community Service in the Twin Cities area for over five years and proudly served as Secretary. Hosea holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Literature from the University of Nairobi (Kenya) and is a PhD candidate in the Department of Human Resources Development at the University of Minnesota.

Shea Ahern, Board Member

Shea joined RCPUSA in the summer of 2021. Shea has a strong background in communications, customer service and sales. Within the organization, her primary focus is social media management and content creation. Besides volunteering, in her spare time she enjoys running, foraging, playing guitar and spending time with friends.

Travis Hagerman, Board Member

Travis has been on the board of directors for RCPUSA since 2017. They have a background in marketing, project management, and customer service. Travis helps with many areas by filling in wherever necessary including design, media planning, project management, video production, or occasionally rolling up their sleeves to stuff a few hundred envelopes. When they are not volunteering or working, Travis enjoys playing video games with friends and spending time outdoors playing disk golf, camping, hiking, and boating.

Alex Van Abbema, Board Member

Alex has been on the board of directors for RCPUSA since 2018. He has a background in journalism and project management. Alex helps with writing, editing and event planning. When not working or volunteering with the Rabondo Project, Alex likes to spend time outdoors and with his wife and dogs.

Kaela Zirbes, Board Member

Kaela joined RCPUSA in early 2022. She has a background in customer service and project management. Kaela helps with writing, editing, and any other projects that need assistance. Besides volunteering, in her spare time she enjoys playing piano, going on hikes, and spending time with friends and family.

Volunteers in Rabondo

Stephen Ooko Charles, Kenya Representative

Stephen is the Project Team Lead in Kenya.  He is the liaison between the home office in the USA and is responsible for coordinating projects and field activities in Kanya.  Stephen is a beneficiary of RCPUSA’s educational scholarships program for under-resourced children and youth. The organization sponsored his education and other basic needs from primary school through college. Stephen also served as a volunteer teacher at both primary and secondary schools during his university education. Upon his graduation, he devoted his time more to help RCPUSA in program implementation.

He currently serves on a volunteer basis as the project coordinator and implementer for all RCPUSA activities in Kenya. He is also responsible for the academic affairs of all students under the sponsorship of RCPUSA. Stephen has a Bachelor of Science degree in IT and Project Management from the University of Nairobi and currently works as an independent IT Consultant.

Luke Oyoo

Luke has been a part of RCPUSA since the organization’s inception.  He became a volunteer in 1999 and joined the founder of RCPUSA, the late Timon Bondo, when he was the head teacher at Rabondo Primary School. At that time, the school was facing closure due to lack of classrooms for students and other learning facilities.  With his experience in education sector, he was instrumental in helping RCPUSA actualize the building and renovation of Rabondo Primary School and the, establishment of St Timon’s Rabondo Secondary School.

Luke is very passionate about RCPUSA. He developed personal friendship with the project founder, the late Timon Bondo. As the secretary of RCPUSA in Kenya, he would ensure that foreign and local guests of RCPUSA settled well in the community whenever they visited. Luke has also served as a local tour guide to help visitors understand the culture and life in Rabondo and the surrounding communities.  In his retirement, Luke is engaged in farming and rears cattle and poultry. In his spare time. he enjoys reading books of all categories.

Dan Ochola

Daniel (Dan) Ochola Ogola has been a volunteer for RCPUSA for almost the entire time of its existence.  Dan was the Chair of the Parent and Teacher’s Association (PTA) that was key in bringing back the Rabondo Primary School when it had been slated by the government for closure.  He was instrumental in rallying parents and community members to volunteer their time and resources in building the schools and the entire village through RCPUSA. This earned him the honor of becoming the first Chair of the Board of RCPUSA in Kenya – a position he served in for over 15 years.  made him the chairperson for RCPUSA in Kenya. Dan calls himself “an all-weather volunteer” whose hands are in almost everything that RCPUSA has done. He would ensure that RCPUSA projects are running smoothly. Dan is a farmer and a businessman. He has a background in land survey.
